Shane Drakes, MD is the Sports Medicine Fellowship Director at Montefiore Medical Center-Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr Drakes is originally from Barbados and earned his medical degree from the University of the West Indies. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Montefiore Medical Center-Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center, graduating in the first class of Sports Medicine Fellows in 2015.
On completing his Sports Medicine Fellowship, he worked in his home country of Barbados as a PM&R and Sports Medicine physician in private practice. He returned to Montefiore Medical Center in June 2019 and has been there since. He is currently an Attending Physician in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, the Sports Medicine Fellowship Director and an Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
He is board certified in PM&R and Sports Medicine and has experience as a team physician for high school, collegiate, professional and national teams with the highlights of those experiences being a team physician at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2018 and his current role as a team physician for the New York City Football Club.
