Associate Professor
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and TRR MHH
Dr. Radha Korupolu is an Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at McGovern Medical School, UTHealth, and serves as the Service Chief of Spinal Cord Medicine at UTHealth and Clinical Chief of Respiratory Services at TIRR Memorial Hermann. She holds a Master’s in Clinical Research from UTHealth and completed a fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine.
Dr. Korupolu’s research focuses on mindfulness-based interventions to reduce pain in individuals with SCI, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) to improve upper extremity motor recovery, and respiratory outcomes in ventilated SCI patients. Her NIH-funded study explores mindfulness meditation as a non-pharmacological pain management strategy, while her VNS research investigates both invasive and non-invasive neuromodulation approaches for motor recovery. She also examines ventilation strategies and biomarkers to improve respiratory health in SCI patients.
Clinically, Dr. Korupolu specializes in spasticity management, employing advanced interventions such as intrathecal baclofen therapy, chemodenervation, and neurolysis to optimize function and mobility. She is a recognized expert in the field, frequently invited to lead workshops and lectures nationally and internationally.
A recipient of the Jerry Johnston Andrew Award for Spinal Cord Research, Dr. Korupolu is an investigator in multiple funded trials and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. She is committed to advancing SCI rehabilitation through clinical innovation, research, and mentorship.
