Neil Segal, MD, MS serves as the Dr. George Varghese Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and Director of Musculoskeltal Rehabilitation and Cliical Research at the University of Kansas. His clinical practice involves the use of ultrasound and other imaging modalities to serve patients with musculoskeletal problems. His clinical research program includes studies for patients with hip, knee and ankle osteoarthritis, chronic tendinopathy. There are four arms to his clinical research program. One uses diagnostic imaging to identify factors which predict who will develop painful knee osteoarthritis in the future so that preventive interventions can be designed. Another involves use of both rehabilitation and regenerative approaches to improve mobility in people with knee and ankle osteoarthritis. The third is aimed at reducing risk for musculoskeletal problems that occur following pregnancy. The long-term goals of his research program are to reduce risk for disablement due to osteoarthritis, chronic tendinopathy and other lower limb musculoskeletal problems.
