Dr. Pam Hansen is a Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Utah who specializes in musculoskeletal, spine and cancer rehabilitation. She completed her medical school training at Northwestern University followed by residency training at the University of Washington. Dr. Hansen then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Utah where she has remained. She is Board Certified through the American Board of Physical Medicine and& Rehabilitation. Her clinical interests include exercise throughout the lifespan with attention to the aging population, cancer rehabilitation, and non-pharmaceutical approaches to manage pain, including joint and interventional spine procedures. Dr. Hansen is passionate about medical education and has served as the Residency Program Director for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Utah since 2009 and Vice Chair of Education since 2021.
Dr. Hansen serves as the Medical Director of for the POWER (Personal Optimism with Exercise Recovery) Program at the Huntsman Cancer Institute’s Linda B. and Robert B. Wiggins Wellness and Integrative Health Center, which she founded in 2005. The POWER program offers cancer patients personalized rehabilitation programs based on diagnosis, cancer treatment type and phase, as well as personal goals. POWER helps people affected by cancer improve their quality of life, reduce the side effects of their treatments, and increase strength for daily living. Her research focus has been an extension of her clinical practice with cancer patients and survivors, specifically. She is interested in identifying and utilizing best practices to maximize the physical and psychological health of cancer patients as they go through treatment and beyond during survivorship.
