Pubalgia is a common condition among football players, often caused by muscular imbalances in the abdominal-pelvic region due to repeated microtraumas. The Pau-Toronto rehabilitation protocol, designed to address these muscular imbalances, is proposed as an effective method to avoid surgery and facilitate a return to sports. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of this protocol in the rehabilitation of non-surgical pubalgia in football players.
Design:
This prospective study involved professional football players with non-surgical pubalgia who followed a rehabilitation program based on the Pau-Toronto protocol for 2 months, with 3 sessions per week. Evaluated parameters included pain (visual analog scale), joint mobility, muscle strength and endurance, as well as functional tests.
Results:
The results showed significant improvement in all participants, particularly in terms of pain reduction (VAS), improvement in joint mobility, muscle strength, and functional capacity. These findings are consistent with the literature on the Pau-Toronto protocol.
Conclusions:
The Pau-Toronto protocol is effective in managing pubalgia, providing notable pain relief, functional improvement, and restoration of athletic capabilities. These encouraging results suggest that this protocol could be a preferred treatment to avoid surgical complications and facilitate a faster and safer return to sports.
